This document sets out the agreement between the Crown and partners of PGgRC regarding the funding and coordination of research into agricultural GHG in New Zealand. The partnership approach that has been a focus of the consortium's operation is recognised by the parties commitment to work together through this MOU.
Under the MOU the role of the PGGRC will also be to: i) promote the undertaking of research consistent with the Research Strategy by third parties; and ii) to co-ordinate, monitor and report, to the extent reasonably practicable, on research activities that are identified in the Research Strategy but are undertaken outside the direct control of the PGGRC.
The MOU agreement had a review date of June 2007; with the announcement of preferred Climate change policy by the Crown not occuring until September 2007 this review has been delayed.
The NZ Government has introduced new policy initiatives such as an emissions trading scheme, and increased funding for research with these announcements; the Consortium will continue to hold to the partnership outlined in the MOU and develop it further in the new policy environment.
